We are so very excited to welcome our first new speech therapist to the practice!
I first met Megan at the University of Maryland, when I had the opportunity to be the adjunct instructor for her Introduction to Linguistics class. I know teachers aren't supposed to have favorites but... I truly loved having Megan in my class, it was always clear from her eager participation that she cared about the content. When graduate school clinic started and I needed some help watching my two toddlers, I was so happy that Megan agreed to watch them for me until we moved away to San Angelo, TX.
We recently had the chance to catch up again and let our children meet each other. It was a sweet reunion and it led to the exciting possibility of having Megan join me at Play & Thrive Speech. I know she will be a wonderful addition to the practice.
Megan graduated from the University of Maryland with an undergraduate degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences and pursued her Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology from Radford University.
Her career began in the school system working with older children with varying degrees of cognitive and language ability. After the birth of her first child, she shifted to a more focused setting working with young adults with Autism and Emotional Disabilities. When Megan’s eldest child began speech therapy and was suspected to have an Autism and/or ADHD diagnosis, Megan refocused her interest on early intervention for infants and toddlers suspected to be on the Autism spectrum.
Megan believes in empowering families and embracing brain differences to learn the best language approach for each child. She currently lives in Bowie, MD with her husband, cat, and two small children. When not in the clinic, she can be found dancing and doing gymnastics with her kids and spending time watching sports with family and friends in the area.
